SAN JOSE, Calif.-- The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team is currently tied for second place with the co-host University of San Francisco after shooting 318 as a team in the first round of the 2005 Bay Area Classic, which is being played at the 72-par, 6,095 yard Boulder Ridge Golf Club.
Sophomore Dale Gammie, who leads all Rainbow Wahine golfers, is tied for fifth place after firing a four-over 76 through the first 18 holes. Gammie, of Pukalani, Maui, is only two strokes off the lead. Fellow sophomore Sara Odelius ended day one tied for ninth after shooting a six-over 78. Also competing for UH are junior Tara Chappell (81, T 23), freshman Xyra Suyetsugu (83, T 30) and junior Kari Sur (89, T 58).
Fresno State leads the 13-team field after one round with 310. BYU's Rachel Newren and Ole Miss' Katie Davidson each have a share of the lead after they shot two-over 74s on the first 18 holes. The second and final round will begin tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. PST.
