PALO ALTO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i defeated UC Davis, 9-5, for seventh place at the Stanford Invitational yesterday at the Avery Aquatic Center.
The No. 7 Rainbow Wahine (2-4) got a four-goal effort from Monika Kruszona to power past the Aggies. The freshman scored a pair of goals in both the first and second quarters to aid UH to a 5-3 lead at the half.
UH added to its lead as Shannon Carroll and Darcy Scott-Hosaka added goals in the third, while teammates Danielle Mulford and Audrey Harrer scored in the fourth. UC Davis managed only one goal in each of the final two quarters.
Earlier in the day, Hawai`i dropped a pair of matches against No. 2 USC (11-4) and to No. 6 California (8-6).
UCLA defeated USC for the tournament title. Host Stanford took third place over Indiana, while California claimed fifth knocking off San Jose State.
The Rainbow Wahine return home and are idle this week before going back to Southern California for matches against UCLA (Feb. 24) and Cal State Northridge (Feb. 25) before opening play in the UC Santa Barbara Tournament Feb. 25-27.
