Rainbow Wahine Lose to BYU

The Hawai'i softball team lost it's second game in a row in the UNLV Louisville Slugger Desert Classic 10-3 to BYU and their power hitting.

The Rainbow Wahine's pitching staff could not contain the Cougars to the park -- five home-runs were hit: including two by lead-off hitter and catcher Lauren Watson, and one towering shot hit over the fence by Ianeta Le'i.

For BYU it was a combined pitching performance that only surrendered three runs, spaced eight hits, six walks and seven strike outs.

After giving up three runs in the top of the first, UH battled back in the bottom half of the inning. Noelle Izumi reached first safely on a base hit to leftfield. Two batters later, Tyleen Tausaga hit a double into left field that scored a streaking Noelle Izumi on two outs.

After retiring BYU three-in-a-row, the Rainbow Wahine chipped away at the two run deficit again. This time it was rightfielder Tracie Uchima who hit a double to left which scored Tara Harbert.

But that was the closest the UH could close the gap. BYU tacked on three consecutive runs in the top of the third, one in the sixth inning and three more in the front door.

For Hawai'i, the duo of Jessica Morton and Shannon Tabion did the pitching duties for Hawai'i, with Morton taking the loss.
