WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i-- After three rounds of golf on the Big Island, the University of Hawai'i men's golf team finished the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate in 21st place with a three day team score of 861, three strokes below par. Oklahoma State claimed the team championship after finishing 63 strokes below par with 801.
Junior Travis Toyama was UH's top finisher as he shot a three-under-par 69 in round three, which tied him for 51st place. Also competing for the Warriors were sophomores Pierre-Henri Soero (215, T77) and Cody Wolfenbarger (218, T95), junior Jarett Hamamoto (221, T102) and senior Kellen-Floyd Asao (225, 108).
Along with the team championship, the Cowboy's Tyler Leon rode away with the individual title after finishing 21 strokes below par with 195 after three rounds at the Waikoloa Village golf course.
The Warriors will be returning to the islands to host the John Burns Intercollegiate on Feb. 23-25 at the Leilehua golf course in Schofield Barracks. The John Burns Intercollegiate will feature five teams ranked nationally by Golfweek/Sagarin, including New Mexico (4) and Auburn (5).
