WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i-- Despite playing some of their most consistent golf of the season as a team and shooting three strokes below their first round total, the University of Hawai'i Warrior golf team slid into 21st place after carding a one-under-par 287 in the second round of the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Cody Wolfenbarger shot a two-under-par 70 for the second day in a row as he climbed 14 spots up the individual leader board, tying him for 35th place after two rounds of golf. Wolfenbarger's two day total sits at 170. Also moving up the leader board is junior golfer Travis Toyama, who jumped from 71st place after day one, into a tie for 50th after he posted a two-under 70, giving him 142 after two rounds. Junior , Pierre-Henri Soero, had a second round score of 73, which ties him for 89th with 146. Also competing for UH are junior golfer Jarett Hamamoto (149, T 102) and senior Kellen-Floyd Asao (151, T 107).
Oklahoma State, ranked third in the nation by Golfweek.com, used the second round to continue their assault on the 21-team field by firing an 18-under 270 as a team and moving eight strokes ahead of second place Washington, who squeezed in front of USC by shooting an 18-under 270 in the second round. The Cowboys, who are currently 42 strokes below par as a team, also have command of the individual leader board with golfers holding down the top three spots. Oklahoma State's Tyler Leon (130, -14) remained in first place after shooting a six-under 66 in round two, Ryan Posey (131, -13) is in second and Alex Noren (132, -12) took over third place after posting a seven-under 65 during the second day.
The third and final round will begin Friday morning at 6:45 a.m. on the 6,791 Waikoloa Village golf course.
