Sascha Heinemann was the lone Rainbow Warrior to advance to the qualifying round finals of the USTA's Hilton Waikoloa Village Futures tournament, Sunday. Heinemann will try to grab one of the eight qualifying spots to the tournament's 32-man Main Draw with a victory on Monday.
Heinemann, the qualifying round's eighth seeded player, defeated teammate Ryan Sceats, 6-4, 6-4, in the second round. He will face former Rainbow Warrior and ninth-seed Malino Oda in the finals. That match begins at 9:00 a.m.
Two other UH players were competing in the second round. Senior Bryon Weinberg dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Christopher Palmanshofer while fellow senior Jarrod Diepraam lost to 12-seeded Ryan Redondo, 6-1, 6-2.
On Saturday's opening day, four other Rainbow Warriors were eliminated from singles competition.
The tournament's singles and doubles Main Draws begin on Tuesday. UH has four doubles teams competing.
