Sascha Heinemann advanced to the Round of 16 at the USTA's Honolulu Futures tournament Main Draw after winning his opening round match, Wednesday, at the UH Tennis Complex. Meanwhile, senior
Ryan Sceats was eliminated from the tournament following a first round defeat.
Heinemann defeated qualifier Patrik Fischer, 7-6 (8), 6-4, in the 32-man first round and will meet top-seeded Wayne Odesnik on Thursday. Odesnik, the world's No. 290-ranked player, defeated Sven Swinnen, 6-3, 6-2, in his opening round match. The Heinemann-Odesnik match is scheduled to start no earlier than 11:00 a.m.
In the day's featured match, Sceats dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision to Tyler Cleveland before a crowd of nearly 200. Cleveland came into the match with a world ranking of No. 612. Sceats qualified into the Main Draw by winning one of eight qualifier spots earlier this week.
The tournament continues throughout the week at the UH Tennis Complex with the finals scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 20.
