HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i doubles team of seniors
Ryan Sceats and
Jarrod Diepraam lost their Round of 32 match, Tuesday night, on the first day of the USTA's Honolulu Futures tournament Main Draw, at the UH Tennis Complex.
The duo was eliminated by Jamie Hunt and Shane Laporte, 6-2, 6-2, in the day's featured match. With the score tied at 2-2 in the first set, Hunt and Laporte broke serve and took the next three games to take a 1-0 set lead.
Sceats and Diepraam opened the second set with the opening game win. But Hunt and Laporte won the next three games before the UH duo got back on the scoreboard. Hunt and Laporte took the final three games for the straight set victory.
Sceats will open singles play with a Round of 32 match on Wednesday against Tyler Cleveland in the day's featured match at 5:30 p.m. Sceats earned a trip to the Main Draw by winning one of eight qualifier spots in the Qualifying Draw. His opponent, Cleveland, has a world ranking of 612.
UH newcomer Sascha Heinemann will also play his Round of 32 singles match on Wednesday against qualifier Patrik Fischer. That match is scheduled to start no earlier than 11:00 a.m.
The tournament continues throughout the week at the UH Tennis Complex with the finals scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 20.
