LAKE ISABELLA, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team wrapped up its fall campaign by capturing the North/South Pacific Coast Fall Dinghy Championships hosted by UC Santa Barbara, Nov. 12-13. It marked the second regatta championship in three fall events for the Rainbows, the national preseason favorite.
Hawai` finished with 163 total points, 10 behind second place Stanford. A total of 16 teams competed in the regatta with 12 races in four different divisions completed over the two-day period. Seniors Bryan Lake and Meredith Adams finished fourth in the "A" division with a total of 51 points, while Joey Pasquali and Becky Mabardy placed third in "B" division with 50 points. Sophomore Mike Scott finished runner-up in the "C" division with 39 points, while senior Eric Oppen was tops in the "D" division with 23 points, 18 points ahead of the nearest competition.
The coed team will next open the spring season with its own Rainbow Invite, January 21-22 at Keehi Lagoon. UH hosts the ICSA Men's and Women's Single-Handed Championships, Nov. 18-20, with Rainbow Wahine Tinja Anderson-Mitterling UH's sole representative.
