Sceats Qualifies Into Honolulu Futures Main Draw

HONOLULU - University of Hawai`i men's tennis player Ryan Sceats qualified into the USTA's Honolulu Futures tournament Main Draw, Monday, by defeating Jonathan Galyon, 6-0, 6-1, at the UH Tennis Complex.

With the win, Sceats earned one of eight qualifying spots into the tournament's 32-man Main Draw, beginning on Tuesday. He will face Tyler Cleveland in the opening round on Wednesday.

Last year, Sceats also advanced to the USTA Honolulu Futures Main Draw, but lost his Round of 32 match. During this fall season, the Perth, Australia native leads the team with a 7-2 singles record.

In addition, UH newcomer Sascha Heinemann earned a spot in the Main Draw, by virtue of winning a wild-card tournament earlier this year. The Eschwege, Germany native drew Patrik Fischer in his opening round match on Wednesday.

Sceats and fellow senior Jarrod Diepraam also earned a wild-card entry in the 32-team doubles Main Draw. The duo will face Jamie Hunt and Shane Laporte in the feature match at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The tournament continues throughout the week at the UH Tennis Complex with the finals scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 20.
