HONOLULU - University of Hawai'i teammates
Ryan Sceats and
Chad Faulk met in the second round of qualifying for the USTA's Honolulu Futures tournament, Sunday, at the UH Tennis Complex.
Sceats eliminated Faulk, 6-1, 6-1, for the right to earn one of eight qualifying spots into the tournament's Main Draw, beginning on Tuesday. The senior will face Jonathan Galyon, who upset Russian qualifying fourth-seed Gary Sacks, 6-4, 2-1 ret., at 10:00 a.m. on Monday.
Already in the Main Draw is UH newcomer Sascha Heinemann, who earlier this year won a wild-card tournament, which secured him an automatic spot into the 32-man field. Last week, Heinemann advanced to the qualifying draw finals of the Hilton Waikoloa Futures on the Big Island.
Last year, Sceats advanced to the Honolulu Futures Main Draw, but lost his Round of 32 match. During this fall season, the Perth, Australia native leads the team with a 6-2 singles record.
The tournament continues throughout the week at the UH Tennis Complex with the finals scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 20.
