Ryan Sceats and junior
Chad Faulk were the only University of Hawai`i men's tennis players to advance in the qualifying draw of the USTA's Honolulu Future tournament, Saturday, at the UH Tennis Complex. The teammates will meet the in qualifying draw's second round on Sunday.
Sceats, who also advanced to the second round of last week's Hilton Waikoloa Futures on the Big Island, upset the 10th-seeded Holden Seguso, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Faulk defeated fellow Rainbow Warrior Jarrod Diepraam, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.
In other action involving UH tennis players, junior Derrick Lajola lost to second-seed Andrew Piotrowski, 6-2, 6-4; junior Brent Hunter dropped a straight-set decision to Bijan Hejazi, 6-3, 6-2; freshman Jeff Fitch fell to Jean-Yves Aubone, 6-2, 6-1; and senior Bryon Weinberg went down to Michael McClune, 6-1, 6-4.
Rainbow Warrior newcomer Sascha Heinemann received a spot into the Main Draw beginning on Tuesday. The qualifying draw continues through Monday at the UH Tennis Complex.
