Coed Sailing Wins Stoney Burke Intersectional

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The top-ranked University of Hawai`i coed sailing team displayed its top billing by capturing the Stoney Burke Intersectional, hosted by Stanford University, Oct. 8-9. The Rainbows have competed on both the east and west coasts in their first two events of the year and have been impressive in both outings

A week after finishing second at the Danmark Trophy in New London, Conn., the Rainbows traveled west to California where they won their first event of the year in a field of 22 teams. UH finished with a total of 51 points, 13 points ahead of second place USC. Bryan Lake and Meredith Adams finished first in A division with 28 points, while winning four of 10 races. Joey Pasqualli and Becky Marbardy sailed in B division and also won four races, finishing with 23 points.

The UH women's team also competed in the event, finishing fifth overall and tops among women's squads with 142 points. Sailing for the women were Tinja Anderson-Mitterling and Caitlin Hill in the A division and Shandy Buckley and Crystal Bronte in the B division. The coed team next travels to Newport, Calif., for the Sloop Pacific Coast Championships, Oct. 15-16.
