Aikawa, Shaw Fall In ITA Regionals Consolation Bracket

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Junior Kana Aikawa and newcomer Fenja Shaw lost their respective matches in the consolation bracket of the Wilson/ITA West Region Championships, Saturday. Their losses means there are no remaining Rainbow Wahine left in the individual tournament.

Due to inclement weather, matches were moved from the Barnes Tennis Center to Aztec Tennis Center on the campus of San Diego State. Aikawa, who won both of her consolation round matches on Friday, dropped her Round of 16 match to Arizona's Tina Razloznik, 6-0, 6-0. Meanwhile, Shaw was eliminated by UNLV's Claire Smith, 6-0, 6-0, also in the Round of 16.

The Rainbow Wahine, who are currently under the guidance of assistant coach Chanon Alcon, while a new coach is hired, performed rather well in the tournament as four players advanced to the Main Draw Round of 64 in singles and two doubles team competed in the Main Draw Round of 32.

UH will next host the second annual Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Nov. 10-12. Arizona, BYU-Hawai`i, San Diego State, and Hawai`i will compete in mock dual matches at the UH Tennis Complex.
