BOISE, Idaho - The No. 11 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team (13-6, 7-0 WAC) defeated the Boise State Broncos (4-10, 0-7) 30-27, 30-21 and 30-20 in front of a crowd of 753 at Bronco Gym Saturday.
Victoria Prince hit .476 with 13 kills and eight blocks. Sarah Mason added 11 kills while Juliana Sanders hit .389 with nine kills. Susie Boogaard had 10 digs, two aces and four kills with a .500 hitting percentage. Tara Hittle hit .467 with eight kills and four digs while Kanoe Kamana`o put up 46 assists, five blocks and four kills while hitting .600.
The Rainbow Wahine came out firing in the first game, taking a 14-5 advantage at the start. But the Broncos came back, pulling within a point at 21-20 off a four-point run. Boise State kept it tight before a big 3-0 run, capped by a block by Prince and Kamana`o, put UH ahead 27-23. BSU fought it off for a while, before an attack error ended it 30-27.
Hawai`i fell behind 6-5 at the start of the second game before going on a 10-3 run to go up 15-9. The Rainbow Wahine got it to 21-13 on an ace by Boogaard, then put it away at 30-21 on a kill by Prince.
Boise State battled again to start game three, holding a slight 10-9 edge. But Hawai`i then took over, scoring 13 of the next 17 points, including a 6-0 run on the serve of Boogaard, to take a 22-14 lead. The Rainbow Wahine then finally put it away on a solo block by Jamie Houston, taking it 30-20.
Hawai`i will now return home for matches against Utah State on Thursday, Oct. 20, and San Jose State on Saturday, Oct. 22.
