Warriors In 12th After First Day At Fresno/Lexus Golf Classic

FAIRFAX, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Warrior golf team finished the first day of the 43rd Fresno/Lexus Golf Classic in 12th place at 19-over-par at the San Joaquin Country Club. The Warriors were in fifth, just five-over-par, after the first round, but fell back to 12th after a 14-over-par second round.

Kyle Walters led the tournament after the first round, shooting a three-under-par 68 before falling back into a tie for 18th after shooting a six-over-par 77 in the second round. Travis Toyama shot 73 in both rounds, putting him in a tie for 29th at +4. Jarett Hamamoto is tied for 33rd at +5, while Pierre-Henri Soero (+9, t-59th) and Cody Wolfenbarger (+11, t-68th).

UH sophomore Ryan Perez was forced to withdraw from the tournament with an injury, making the Warriors play with just five players instead of six. Each team in the tournament takes the top four out of six scores for each round.

Denver and San Diego State are tied for the tournament lead at -1, followed by Colorado State (+2), San Diego (+4) and UC Riverside (+6). Denver's James Love is the individual leader at -4, followed by Southern Utah's Eric Nillson (-3), while four golfers are tied for third at -2.

The tournament concludes tomorrow with UH's golfers starting from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Pacifc Time.
