Hawai`i Sailing Victorious at Rainbow Invite

HONOLULU - The University of Hawaii sailing program ended the second day of competition triumphantly in both the coed and women's bracket at the Rainbow Invite featured at Keehi Lagoon today.

Hawai`i sailing entered four teams in to this weekends competition with three teams finishing in the top five. UH red was first overall and in the coed division with 50 points. UH green followed in third with 94 total points, 55 in the A division and 39 in the B. The Rainbow Wahine sailing team placed fifth overall and first in the women's division with a point total of 113, 67 in the A and 46 in the B division.

UH red was navigated to victory by senior Matthew Stine, junior Scott DeCurtis, sophomore Cassandra Harris and freshman Rebecca Mabardy. The team posted regatta lows of 30 points in the A division and a weekend low of 20 points in the B division. They also edged out their nearest competitor by 36 points.

Navy jostled for position with the University of Hawai`i in both the coed and the women's races. Navy totaled 86 points with 47 in the A division and 39 in the B division. Navy's second team was also in the top five just behind UH green with 108 total points. The Navy women finished in the top-10 of overall competition and second in the women's bracket, earning 71 points in the A division and 91 in the B with total of 162 for the regatta.

The University of Hawai`i wahine sailing team is currently ranked 14th by collegesailing.org and the coed team is still 6th in the nation.

Next for the Hawai`i sailing program will be the coed team at the Stanford Team Races the first weekend of March and the women will also start competition again in March.
