Warriors Fall in Playoff to Claim Second

DENVER- The University of Hawai`i Warriors notched a second place finish in the Ron Moore Invitational after losing a playoff with the University of Arizona as both teams finished the three round tournament with a two-under-par 864. Hawai`i fired a six-under 282 in the second, which gave them the top spot heading into the final round. Hawai`i shot a three-over 291 on the final 18 holes, but couldn't hold onto the lead in the one-hole tie breaker against the Wildcats.

Junior Jarett Hamamoto continued to lead the Warriors as he posted back-to-back par 72s in the second and third rounds, which landed him in a tie for sixth. Hamamoto, a native of Hilo, HI, finished the invitational with a three-under 213. Sophomore Cody Wolfenbarger moved 13 spots up the leader board as he finished in a tie for eighth. Wolfenbarger recorded a career day throughout the second and third rounds on the Riverdale Dunes as he shot a career-low 66 in the second round and finished with a three-round total of 214, two-under par. Pierre-Henri Soero tied for 14th with a one-over 217. Also competing for UH were senior Kellen-Floyd Asao (219, T25) and freshman Ryan Perez (225, T52).

Arizona's Travis Esway claimed the individual crown and led his the Wildcats to victory with a 12-under 204 after three rounds. The men's golf team will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Oct. 1-2.
