LAS VEGAS -The Rainbow Wahine tennis team fared better in the second day of play at the UNLV Fall Invitational, picking up three wins in the back draw. In Flight one,
Lauren Fitzgerald advanced to the back draw finals with a win over Amanda Mang of LSU.
In doubles action, the Rainbow Wahine claimed two victories; Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor grabbed an 8-2 win over Minnesota's Jane Anderson and Ida Malmberg. In the day's most decisive victory, the duo of Justine Boutet and Kana Aikawa blanked the Minnesota team of Shelby Rohrer and Jenna Tellefsen, 8-0.
In other singles action, Kimberly Curtis dropped her first set, 3-6, versus Tiffany Tucker of LSU. But the senior powered back to split sets with a 6-4 second set win. In the third set, Tucker seized control on court and came away with a 6-2 win, giving her the match. On the main draw courts Julia Sandborn was unable to procure a win versus UNLV's Stephanie Serrano. Sandborn fell, 6-1, 6-0.
The Rainbow Wahine will return to Honolulu on Monday, September 28. They are next scheduled to participate in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Western Regional Championships in San Diego, Calif.
