Rainbow Sailors Finish in Tie for Sixth at ICSA North American Team Race Championships

CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow sailing team finished in a tie for sixth place at the ICSA North American Team Race Championships with a record of 5-9 in the qualifying round.

The Rainbows advanced to the qualifying round with a sail-off victory over Washington. UH was 2-5 after the first round of the qualifying races, then went 3-4 in the second round to finish at 5-9.

Hobart/William Smith (10-4) won the national championship, followed by St. Mary's (9-5), Dartmouth (8-6), Southern California (8-6) and Brown (6-8).

In the first round, Hawai`i got its two wins over USC (1,2,6) and Harvard (1,2,3). Then the Rainbows took on the spoiler role in the second round as they beat Georgetown (1,2,5) before beating St. Mary's (1,2,6), costing St. Mary's the national title, and Dartmouth (2,3,5), dropping Dartmouth to third.

Hawai`i takes a day off before making its final attempt for a national championship, in the coed dinghy competition that runs from June 2-4.
