Hawai'i Finishes WAC Championships in Fifth

Two Freshmen Voted All-WAC

EL PASO, Texas--The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team wrapped-up their 2003-04 regular season with a fifth place finish in the Western Athletic Conference Championships on the 6,010 yard Underwood Golf Course. The Rainbow Wahine shot a 316 in the final round to end the championships with a three-round total of 945.

Freshman Sara Odelius capped a stellar year by finishing sixth on the individual leader board and was named to the All-WAC first team following the conclusion of the tournament. Odelius shot an even-par 72 to move-up one spot into sixth place on the final day of action. The native of Helsingborg, Sweden, finished with a total of 224, eight strokes over par. Fellow freshman Dale Gammie's solid play throughout her first collegiate season earned her a spot on the All-WAC second team after she finished the WAC Championships in a tie for 11th place. Gammie, who had a red-hot 69 in round one, posted an eight-over-par 80 in the final round. Also competing for UH were senior Rene Krause (243, +27), sophomore Tara Chappell (248, +32), and freshman Megan Stoddart (254, +38).

Tulsa outplayed San Jose State in the final round to win the team title by four strokes. The Golden Hurricane shot 296 in round three and finished with a three-round total of 897. San Jose State's Ashley Gomes finished round one in first place and didn't look back. Gomes shot a three-over-par 75 in the final round to win the individual championship with ease.

Hawai`i awaits word for the NCAA regional selections to be announced Monday, April 26. The Top 21 teams in the West compete in the NCAA Regionals, May 6-8 at Stanford, Calif.
