FULLERTON, Calif. - The Hawai'i women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to Cal State Fullerton, Friday afternoon, at the Titan Tennis Courts. The Rainbow Wahine (8-13), who are 0-2 on its current three-day road trip, concludes their regular season at UC Riverside, Saturday.
The Rainbow Wahine fell in a hole early, losing two of the three doubles contests, with the team of Lauren Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor picking up the only win at the No. 2 court over Caroline Freeman and Mai Ly Tran, 8-3. Fitzgerald continued her winning ways in singles competition, capturing her fourth victory of the road trip, a 6-0, 6-4 sweep of Ruya Inapulat at the No. 1 court.
Hawai‘i added two more wins to tie the score at 3-3 after Kimberly Curtis and Renata Camargo each easily won their matches in straight sets. Curtis won her fourth straight with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Freeman at No. 5 and Camargo got back on the winning track with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Nicole Arias at No. 6.
The match came down to the No. 3 court where CSUF’s Ioana Sisoe out-dueled Justine Boutet, 6-4, 6-1. The victory gave the Titans their first winning season since the 1994-95 season.
