HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i dropped a non-conference game tonight 4-0 to Southern Illinois. It was a single game not associated with the Kipa Aloha Malihini Tournament that ended on Sunday.

Hawai'i falls to 15-14 on the season while Southern Illinois improves to 13-6.

SIU got off to a quick start putting up two runs in the second inning as Haley Viefhaus doubled and scored on Katie Louis' two-run homer to left center off Shannon Tabion (10-3).

Tabion went only three innings after starting the game with some stiffness in her back. Melissa Coogan came on to the start the fourth inning. In the fourth for SIU, Katie Jordan led off with a single and was pinch-run for by Christina Andrews. After a walk to Viefhaus, Andrews tagged and moved to third when Adie Viefhaus' flied out to right. Following a wild pitch in which the runner at third could not advance, UH catcher Denise Dahlberg tried to pick off Haley Viefhaus when she rounded second on the wild pitch. Her throw sailed into the outfield rolling all the way to the right center field wall scoring both runners.

SIU's Amy Harre (6-1) picked up the win scattering three hits to accompany three strikeouts and three walks.

Hawai'i has the rest of the week off and will resume its schedule Thursday, March 18, when it opens up the 20th Hawaii Invitational at RWSS.
