TUSCON, Ariz.—The University of Hawai‘i women’s golf team shot a final round 322 to slip three spots and finish in 13th at the Mountain View Collegiate hosted by Colorado and Colorado State. The Rainbow Wahine posted a three-round of total of 925 (+61) at the 5,982 yard Mountain View Golf Course.
Freshman Sara Odelius led the way for UH, finishing in a tie for 12th place with a nine-over 225. Odelius shot 79 on the final day to miss out on her third straight top 10 finish. Fellow freshman Dale Gammie shot 77 in each round to finish in a tie for 42nd with a total of 231 (+15). Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine were sophomore Tara Chappell (232, +16) and seniors Rene Krause (241, +25) and Megan McGuinness (244, +28).
Denver took it wire-to-wire to win the team championship with a total of 894 (+30), eight strokes ahead of Iowa State and co-host Colorado State. Individual honors went to Kim Welch of Washington State who fired a two-under 214, for a three-stroke victory. It is the second straight win for Welch who conquered the Donnis Thompson field in Hawaii, March 16-17.
The Rainbow Wahine next compete in the Utah-Dixie Classic hosted by Brigham Young, April 5-6.
