PALO ALTO, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i softball team dropped a 1-0 decision this afternoon to Stanford University in the title game of the Stanford Classic at the Smith Family Stadium. It was the second time the Cardinal beat the Rainbow Wahine by the same score in three days.

Cardinal pitcher Dana Sorensen (15-4) tossed a no-hitter against the Rainbow Wahine this afternoon facing one batter over the minimum through seven innings. Sorensen sat down the first 14 batters she faced before plunking Stacey Ritter with a pitch in the fifth inning. Sorensen finished the game with 13 strikeouts. She beat UH twice in the tourney, not allowing a run and striking out 28.

UH pitcher Melissa Coogan (6-10) suffered her second loss to the Cardinal. She struckout three and walked one allowing the Cardinal an unearned run.

Stanford got the game's only run in the fifth coming after Coogan retired the first two batters. Jackie Rhinehart singled to the circle, moved to second on an error by UH third baseman April Crowell, and scored on single to center by Catalina Morris.

Hawai'i falls to 18-19 on the season (2-3 in the tourney), while Stanford improves to 27-7, going undefeated (5-0) in the tourney.

The Rainbow Wahine open up Western Athletic Conference play at home April 2-3 with four games against the newest softball league member, UTEP.
