Hawai`i in Tenth After Mountain View Collegiate Day One

TUSCON, Ariz.--The University of Hawai`i women's golf team is sitting in 10th place with 603 after two rounds of play at the 2004 Mountain View Collegiate. UH opened with a first round total of 307 and followed with an eight-over-par 296 in round two on the 5,982 yard Mountain View Golf Course.

Freshman Sara Odelius is tied for eighth place as she once again leads the way for UH. Odelius finished day one with a two-over-par 74 in round one and a par 72 in round two. Odelius will be aiming for her third straight top ten finish of the season tomorrow. Sophomore golfer Tara Chappell is tied for 27th after shooting a par 72 in round two. Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine are freshman Dale Gammie (154, T53rd) and seniors Rene Krause (157, 65th) and Megan McGuinness (159, T73rd).

The University of Denver is leading the 17-team field with a two-round total of 588, five strokes ahead of Iowa State. Washington State's Kim Welch, who won the Hawai`I hosted Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, is atop the leader board with a two-round total of 141. Welch is two strokes ahead of the competition. The Mountain View Collegiate will conclude tomorrow after the third round of play. The action will resume at 7:30 a.m. MST with a shotgun start.
