Anteaters Rally Past Rainbow Wahine, 4-3

WAIPAHU - In its first home match of the season, the Hawai'i women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 63 UC Irvine, Friday afternoon, at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex.

The Rainbow Wahine (2-3) led 1-0 after the taking the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. Juniors Lauren Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor upended Hui Leow and Christie Posner, 8-4, at the No. 2 court. With the doubles point up for grabs, junior Kimberly Curtis and sophomore Renata Camargo pulled out a 9-7 victory over Kristina Boss and Veronica Fermin.

With the match tied at 2-2, Leow gave the Anteaters the lead with a 7-5, 6-4 decision over Justine Boutet at the No. 3 court. Moments later, Bentzer handed Fitzgerald a 7-5, 6-4 defeat at the top singles position to secure the team victory.

The Rainbow Wahine managed to capture the No. 4 and No. 6 singles spots with Camargo sweeping Fermin, 6-0, 6-1 and Mainor outlasting Posner in a super-tiebreaker, 6-4, 3-6, (11-9).

The match was the first of two on the day for UH, who also hosted Division III Gustavus Adolphus.
