SAN JOSE, Calif., --The University of Hawai`i women's golf team put together its best showing of the season, finishing fourth in a 14-team field at the Bay Area Classic held Feb. 16-17 at the Boulder Ridge Golf Club. UH fired a two-round total of 654.
The Rainbow Wahine, playing its first tournament under Interim Head Coach Ashley Adleta, were led by freshman Sara Odelius and senior Rene Krause who both finished with the top 20. Odelius continued her impressive freshman campaign as the top Rainbow Wahine performer, finishing in a tie for 12th place with a 36-hole total of 162. Krause, who was not far behind, finished in 16th place with a total of 164. Also competing for UH were Tara Chappell (166, T23), Dale Gammie (168, T31) and Megan Stoddart (168, T31).
Washington took home the championship with a total of 629, 15 strokes better than runner-up New Mexico State. Ashley Gomes of co-host San Jose State won medalist honors with 152, two strokes better than Washington's Amber Prange.
Hawaii next plays in the Spartan Invitational hosted on March 2-3 by San Jose State.
