EL PASO, Texas - The Hawai`i women's tennis team improved to a perfect 3-0 in the Western Athletic Conference with a 6-1 romp over UTEP, Sunday afternoon, at the El Paso Tennis Club. The Rainbow Wahine captured its third consecutive victory to improve to 5-3 overall.
UH won the doubles point after the team of Renata Camargo and Kana Aikawa outlasted Danielle King and Téa Spirta, 9-8 at the No. 3 court. The Rainbow Wahine also won the top doubles spot after Lauren Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor toppled Martina Rezar and Katherine Palider, 8-4.
Hawai`i then won five of the six singles matches as Fitzgerald, Sylvia Jaros, Mainor and Camargo all won in straight sets. Fitzgerald swept past Rezar, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot to improve to 5-3 in dual matches this year. Camargo captured her fifth consecutive victory with an easy 6-1, 6-2 victory over King at the No. 6 court.
The Rainbow Wahine return to Honolulu, where they next host Michigan, Feb. 26, at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex.
