HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (4-5) closed out the sweep of the Florida International Golden Panthers (1-7) 7-3 in front of a crowd of 2,225 at the Les Murakami Stadium Sunday. Clary Carlsen (1-2) picked up his first win of the year while Jon Banke (0-1) got the loss for FIU.

Carlsen pitched 7.0 innings, giving up two earned runs while striking out two batters. Guy McDowell then came on in relief, pitching two hitless innings for the 'Bows. Nathan Thurber 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs. Gregory Kish added a 2-for-3 game with a double and a run while Daniel Magana went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Brian Finegan got the Rainbows on the board in the bottom of the third with a sacrafice fly to centerfield, giving UH the 1-0 lead.

FIU's Brian Aragon brought the Golden Panthers back in the top of the fourth with a two-run home run, giving them a 2-1 lead. But that lead didn't hold for long as Thurber launched his second home run in two days, this being a three-run shot in the bottom of the fourth, to give UH the 4-2 edge. Robbie Wilder then drove in Kish later in the inning, pushing the Hawai`i lead to 5-2.

The 'Bows added insurance runs in the fifth, on a Magana single, and the sixth, on a double by Joshua Green, to get the lead to 7-2.

FIU added a run in the seventh before McDowell came in and shut the Golden Panthers out for the rest of the game, making the final score 7-3.

The Rainbows will next face Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Les Murakami Stadium.
