LAS VEGAS - Hawai`i junior right-handed pitcher Shannon Tabion went the entire way as the Rainbow Wahine scored twice in the ninth inning to pick up its first win in the Rebel Classic.
Tabion (2-0) went the distance for the first time this season, making only her second start. She scattered eight hits while striking out one and walking two. UH's committed four errors behind her allowing two of the five runs allowed to be unearned.
UH scored quickly in the first inning off Badger starting pitcher Megan Smith as Tracie Uchima walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, to third on a ground out, and scored on Tyleen Tausaga's single up the middle. Then Stacey Ritter came up and cranked her first home run of the season to left field.
Wisconsin tied it up in the third when UH committed three of its four errors.
The game went back and forth as each team scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
In the ninth with Justina Kahaku placed at second with the internationl tie-breaker rule, Uchima lined out to right for the first out. Noelle Izumi hit a sharp single to center moving Kahaku to third and Izumi raced to second on the throw. Both runners came home on April Crowell's single to right to cap the scoring.
Hawai`i improved to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the tourney. Wisconsin fell to 1-2.
