Rainbows Bring Out the Bats with 14-6 Win Over Florida International

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (2-5) defeated the Florida International Golden Panthers (1-5) 14-6 in front of a crowd of 2,117 at the Les Murakami Stadium Friday. Ricky Bauer (2-1) gave up no earned runs in 8.0 innings, striking out four without a walk for the win while Mark Worrell (0-3) took the loss for FIU. Bauer faced the minimum amount of batters for the first six innings of the game.

Joshua Green led the way for the Rainbows, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Matthew Inouye also went 3-for-4 with two RBI, two runs and a double, while Robbie Wilder added a 2-for-4 night with two RBI, one run and a double. Isaac Omura broke out of an early season slump, going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

The 'Bows came out big in the second inning as Gregory Kish hit a two-run single to open the scoring. Omura then drove in one before Wilder hit a two-run double, making it 5-0 after two.

The Rainbow bats struck again in the fifth with a RBI-single by Green and a two-run double by Nathan Thurber, before Inouye drove in two more in the sixth to make it 10-0. FIU got an unearned run in the seventh, but the `Bows responded with another big inning, scoring four more to make it 14-1. The Golden Panthers got five runs in the ninth, three coming off an inside-the-park home run by Dennis Diaz, making the final 14-6.

The two teams will play again tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. Stephen Bryant will take the mound for the `Bows against FIU's Andrew Edwards.
