Four Rainbow Warriors Advance at USTA Futures

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i - Four of the seven University of Hawai'i men's tennis players who participated in this week's USTA Futures tournament at the Waikoloa Resort, won their matches, Saturday, to advance in the single-elimination event.

Jarrod Diepraam, Ryan Sceats, Dalibor Ptak, and Bryon Weinberg advanced in the Qualifying Round and take one step forward to earning a spot in the Main Draw. All advance to the second round while Diepraam moves on to the finals after receiving a walk-over victory since his second round opponent was bumped to the Main Draw.

Diepraam will face the winner of Weinberg and Kevin Yamauchi for the right to secure one of eight qualifier spots into the Main Draw. Weinberg beat Steffan Moritz, 6-4, 6-2, to advance to the second round.

Sceats defeated Sweeden's Vladimir Pino, 6-0, 6-2, and will meet Qualifying No. 5 seed Alex Menichini. Ptak swept Jeff Miller, 6-2, 6-4, and will next face Qualifying No. 6 seed Bo Hodge.

Also competing for the Rainbow Warriors were Chad Faulk, Travis Smith, and Jamie Migia. Faulk fell 6-2, 6-4, to Jeremy Moitry; Smith dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Chris Rasmussen; and Migia was eliminated by Chad Wilson, 6-1, 6-1.

Action continues Sunday at the Waikoloa Resort on the Big Island.
