Dalibor Ptak of the Hawai'i men's tennis team advanced to the USTA Honolulu Futures Qualifying Round finals, Sunday, at the Diamond Head Racquet Club and Ala Moana courts. If both Sceats and Ptak win their matches, they will advance to the Main Draw, beginning Tuesday.
Sceats earned a walkover win against Qualifying No. 6 seed Anthony Law while Ptak easily defeated Robert Frantz, 6-0, 6-0. Ptak will face Blake Muller while Sceats meets Kevin Arias.
In other action involving current members of the Hawai'i tennis team, former Rainbow Warrior Malino Oda defeated freshman Taylor Tsao, 6-3, 6-2; Chris Rasmussen eliminated senior Travis Smith, 6-0, 6-2; Kevin Aria rallied past sophomore Chad Faulk, 1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3 and sophomore Derrick Lajola withdrew from his match against Tim Smyczek.
Play continues throughout the week. In last week's Waikoloa Futures event, two UH players advanced to the Main Draw - Weinberg and Lajola.
