HONOLULU - Inclement weather halted the Hawai'i-Texas A&M women's tennis mock dual match, Saturday, at the UH Tennis Complex. The teams were only able to finish the doubles matches before rain forced the cancellation of singles play.
The Aggies won all four doubles contests in the team's match-up on the final day of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. The team of Lauren Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor provided the biggest challenge to the Aggies, ranked 24th in the final ITA rankings last season. The pair dropped a close 8-6 decision to Lauren Walker and Tiffany Clifford.
"That match was on serve until the end and if not for a couple of rain delays, I think we might was pulled that one out," head coach Carolyn Katayama said. "I'm impressed with all of our doubles play. I think we're right in contention to win that doubles point down the line. The girls are in the right place and they just need to work on a few things."
In other action, TAMU's Anna Lubinsky and Helga Vieira defeated Sylvia Jaros and Julia Sandborn, 8-4; Anna Blagodarova and Nicki Mechem beat Kimberly Curtis and Chloe Bihag, 8-4, and Marisa Druss and Seva Iwinski dropped Samanta Cappella and Michelle Stewart, 8-2.
The match does not count in the team's overall records. Only individual match results count toward each player's records.
Earlier in the day, Arizona won all eight matches - five singles and three doubles - against Texas State.
