WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i - University of Hawai'i junior
Bryon Weinberg fell to Brendan Evans, 6-3, 6-3, Tuesday, in a Main Draw first round match at the USTA Waikoloa Futures tournament at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Weinberg was the last UH tennis player remaining in the tournament.
Weinberg, a Toronto native who won just five matches during his inaugural 2003-04 season at UH, won all of his matches in the Qualifying Rounds to advance to the Main Draw. After two individual tournaments this season, Weinberg has accumulated a 7-2 singles record.
As a team, the UH tennis squad won six singles matches against top caliber opponents, including some who have garnered professional qualifying points. Weinberg and teammate Derrick Lajola were the only UH tennis players to advance to the Main Draw.
The Hawaii tennis team now prepares for its first dual match of the season. UH hosts UC Davis, Friday, at approximately 4:00 p.m. at the newly renovated UH Tennis Complex.
