HONOLULU - The No. 4 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine (13-0, 3-0 WAC) stayed unbeaten, defeating the Boise State Broncos (14-4, 3-2) 30-20, 30-25 and 30-26 in front crowd of 7,385 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Kanoe Kamana`o had another great all-around performance with 36 assists, seven digs and five blocks. Victoria Prince led a balanced UH attack, putting away 11 kills and two aces on a .421 hitting percentage. Susie Boogaard and Tara Hittle added 10 kills apiece while Alicia Arnott had seven kills, all in the second game. Teisa Fotu led the way in the back row with 13 digs.
The Broncos kept it tight at the start of the first game, holding the Rainbow Wahine to a slight 8-7 edge until UH answered with a 4-0 run, sparked by two Boogaard kills, pushing it to 12-7 to force an early Boise State timeout. Hawai`i continued their solid play out of the break, getting their lead up to 16-8 on an ace by Hittle. Kamana`o then put it away, picking up her fourth block of the game, second block solo, to give the Rainbow Wahine the 30-20 game one victory.
Boise State opened game two with a 10-6 advantage. Hawai`i was able to pull within a point at 10-9 before the Broncos went on a 5-2 run, making it 15-11 at the media timeout. The Rainbow Wahine got back into it little-by-little, as an overpass kill by Prince gave them their first lead at 24-23. In all, Boogaard served six-straight UH points to put Hawai`i up 26-23 before they took the second game 30-25.
Hawai`i kept it rolling in the third game, jumping out to a 15-9 lead at the media timeout. They got it up to 20-12 before taking game three, 30-26 on a block by Juliana Sanders and Caroline Blood.
The Rainbow Wahine will next face UTEP on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
