HONOLULU - The No. 3 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine (18-0, 8-0 WAC) swept through the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (13-8, 2-7) 30-16, 30-19 and 30-19 in front of a crowd of 6,855 at the Stan Sheriff Center to extend their WAC winning streak to 86 matches.
Kanoe Kamana`o led the way for the Rainbow Wahine with 39 assists, 14 digs and two blocks. Susie Boogaard had a match-high 17 kills and a .438 hitting percentage while Alicia Arnott tied the school single-match record with six aces and eight kills. Ashley Watanabe had another good night in the back row with 15 digs.
The Rainbow Wahine came out on fire, jumping out to an 8-1 advantage on the serve of Arnott. UH kept their domination throughout the game, pushing their lead to 12-2 and 29-15 before winning it 30-16.
The Golden Hurricane started the second game well, taking an early 5-4 edge. But Arnott's four quick kills highlighted a 9-2 run, making it 13-7. Hawai`i kept rolling throughout, taking game two 30-19.
UH was able to play 15 players, most getting in the third game as two kills by back-up setter Cayley Thurlby highlighted Hawai`i's 30-19 game three win.
The Rainbow Wahine will again head to the road, as they will play at San Jose State on Wednesday, Oct. 27 and at Boise State on Friday, Oct. 29.
