BERKELEY, Calif. - The Hawai'i men's tennis team began Day 1 of the Wilson/ITA Western Regional with two singles players and one double team advancing in the Main Draw. Junior
Ryan Sceats won his singles match and teamed with
Dalibor Ptak to advance in the doubles competition.
In the Round of 128, Sceats was the only Rainbow Warrior to win his match, defeating Chris Iwamura of Santa Clara, 6-1, 6-2. Junior Bryon Weinberg won both of his matches with wins over Nevada's Rudi Leushner, 6-1, 6-3, and a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Warwick Foy of Sacramento State in the Round of 64.
In doubles play, Sceats and Ptak easily won their match over Gonzaga's Dru Ernst/Marco Pineda, 8-3.
The tournament continues on Saturday with matches at both the Hellman Tennis Center and Channing Courts.
