RUSTON, La. - The No. 3 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine (15-0, 5-0 WAC) swept through the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (5-14, 1-5) 30-15, 30-21 and 30-23 in front of a crowd of 424 at the Thomas Assembly Center Thursday.
Victoria Prince led the way for UH with 14 kills, three blocks, three aces and a .636 hitting percentage. Susie Boogaard added 15 kills and 10 digs, while Alicia Arnott had 13 kills. Ashley Watanabe added 15 digs while Kanoe Kamana`o had 32 assists, seven digs and two blocks in just two games played.
The Rainbow Wahine opened the first game with a 6-1 lead off three kills by Boogaard and two more by Hittle. Tech cut it back to 7-5 before Hawai`i went on a big 12-1 run to push it to a 19-6 advantage. UH continued to roll, taking game one 30-15.
The Lady Techsters started game two well, taking a 4-3 lead. But the Rainbow Wahine responded with a big 8-1 run to take an 11-5 advantage. Stacey Clark then came in for Tech and served them on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 11-10. The Lady Techsters stayed in it for a while until two-straight kills by Prince capped a 5-1 UH run that made it 21-14. Hawai`i then ran off a couple more runs late in the game before a step-out kill by Prince put it away, 30-21.
Hawai`i Louisiana Tech opened the third game with a 9-4 edge, pushing it to 13-8 to force UH Head Coach Dave Shoji to call a timeout. The Rainbow Wahine fought back after the break, taking their first lead of the game, since taking the opening point, at 17-16. Tech retook the lead at 20-19, but Hawai`i responded, going on a 11-2 run, capped by two Arnott kills, to take the final game 30-23.
The Rainbow Wahine now heads to Dallas for a match at Southern Methodist on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m.
