HONOLULU - The No. 2 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine (6-1) defeated the Baylor Bears (3-3) 30-16, 30-20 and 30-26 in the second night of the Aston Imua Wahine Volleyball Challenge in front of a crowd of 6,386 Friday night. The match was preceded by a chilling tribute to Doctor Allen Richardson, the Rainbow Wahine's team doctor of 24 years, who passed away this past week.

Kim Willoughby broke another record, passing Martina Cincerova on the all-time UH list for career service aces. Willoughby, who tied her UH single-match best with six aces on the night, now has 140 career aces. Willoughby also had 21 kills and a .395 hitting percentage.

Lily Kahumoku came back to have a solid performance, hitting .593 with 18 kills, six digs and two blocks. Maja Gustin hit .583 with eight kills and four blcoks while fellow middle Lauren Duggins hit .667 with four kills, six digs and three blocks in two games.

Baylor stayed close at the start of game one, holding UH to a 12-11 lead. But then Willoughby took over, recording a kill before serving 10 straight points (three off service aces), to put Hawai`i up 22-11. That would be more than enough for the Rainbow Wahine as they took game one 30-16.

The second game would stay close throughout as Baylor trailed by a score of 24-20 late. But then it was Kahumoku's turnas she served five straight points to take game two 30-20.

In game three, Hawai`i used a couple of small runs (5-0 on Willoughby's serve and 5-0 on Karin Lundqvist's serve) to keep the lead early. Baylor would cut the deficit to 25-24 late but Kahumoku then scored three late kills to put the Bears away 30-26 in game three.

The Rainbow Wahine will face the Pacific Tigers in the Aston Imua Challenge championship match tomorrow at approximately 7 p.m. It will be preceded by a match between Wichita State and Baylor at 5 p.m.
