ALBUQUERQUE, N.M..-- The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine golf team completed the second round with an 11-over 303 to move into 15th place (323-303--626) at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico.
Hawaii played dramatically better on the second day, improving its team score by 20 strokes, after shooting 31-over during Thursday's first-round action. Freshman Dale Gammie nailed four birdies in the second round and finished the day with a one-over 74. Her two-day total of 154 is tops for the Rainbow Wahine and puts her in a tie for 38th.
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine are senior Rene Krause (+11, T52place), sophomore Tara Chappell (+11, T52 place), freshman Sara Odelius (+12, T61 place), and sophomore Kari Sur (+30, 96th place). Par for The Championship Course is 73 while the total yardage is 6,069 yards.
Host New Mexico shot an 8-over 290 to expand its lead to nine strokes over second place Oklahoma State. The Lobos have a two-day total of 576 to the Cowgilrs 585 going into the final day. New Mexico's Kailin Downs and Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin share the individual lead at 8-under par 138.
The Dick McGuire Invitational concludes tomorrow with final round action beginning at 8:00 a.m.
