Kodoma Opens Season Strong; Rest of Team Falters

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Univeristy of Hawaii men's golf squad got off to a disappointing start for the 2003-04 season, but got a brilliant individual performance at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate hosted by the University of New Mexico.

Matt Kodama began his senior campaign in fine fashion, finishing in second place with a three-round total of 213 (68-69-76) at The Championship Course. The rest of the team, however, couldn't keep up finishing in 19th place with a total of 914 (305-303-306). Arizona State won the team title with a total of 865 (282-286-297), beating host New Mexico by two strokes.

Kodama finished runner-up to the Lobos Ian Medlock who won medalist honors with a three-round total of 211 (72-69-70) to finish five under par. While Kodama finished three-under par, the rest of the team struggled. Kellen Floyd-Asao was the next highest Warrior, finishing in a tie for 70th.

The Warriors will return to action Sept. 29-30 at Ron Moore Classic hosted by the University of Denver.
