Rainbows Advance to Championship Round in Sail-Off

DETROIT, Mich. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow sailing team advanced to the championship round of the team race competition by going 1-1 in a sail-off after finishing the round-robin first round with a 3-3 record.

The Rainbows started off the day with three straight wins over Texas A&M-Galveston, Charleston and Wisconsin. Then, in their fourth race of the day, UH fell to Hobart/William Smith on a disqualification.

Hawai`i would then drop races to Harvard and St. Mary's to finish the round-robin races with a 3-3 record.

In a three-school sail-off with Charleston and Hobart/William Smith, the Rainbows would carry a 1-1 record, which was good enough to send them to the championship round, starting tomorrow.

UH's team consisted of Bryan Lake, Joey Pasquali and Matthew Stine as skippers and Jennifer Warnock, Sarah Hitchcock and Kathryn Jackson as crews.

Also advancing from Hawai`i's group were Harvard (6-0), St. Mary's (5-1) and Hobart/William Smith (3-3). The four teams to advance from group two were Tufts (6-0), Dartmouth (5-1), Southern California (4-2) and Georgetown (3-3).
