AUSTIN, TEXAS - The University of Hawai`i softball team kept its hopes alive knocking of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tonight, 2-0, in an elimination game at McCombs Field in front of 866 in Region 3 of the NCAA Tournament hosted by the University of Texas.

UH's Melissa Coogan (30-10) picked up the win, and set the school record for most wins in a season surpassing Brooke Wilkins' mark of 29 set in both 1994 and '95.

Coogan went the distance spacing three hits and striking out three. She pitched her way out of her only jam in the bottom of the first inning when she allowed two hits and left the bases loaded, striking out Dani Damel to end the threat.

The Rainbow Wahine got on the board first in the second inning off Islander pitcher Sarah Pauly (23-16) when Stacey Porter drew a leadoff walk and immediately stole second. Kate Judd was walked and Trisha Ramos got credit for a sacrifice bunt/fielder's choice, when the Islander third baseman failed to get the lead runner Porter at third base. Following a strikeout to Marie Jackson, Noelle Izumi layed down a bunt single to third scoring Porter.

Hawai`i tacked on another run in the top of the sixth to take a 2-0 lead. Porter hit a one-out single up the middle, stole second, and scored on Ramos' RBI single back up the middle.

Hawai`i takes on Northwestern Friday at 1 p.m. HST.
