SHREVEPORT, La. – The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (18-17) defeated the Centenary Gentlemen (19-19) 3-1 in front of a crowd of 68 at Shehee Stadium.
Keahi Rawlins (2-2) got the win for UH while David Ruffing (2-4) got the loss for the Gents.
Guy McDowell would pick up his first save of the season.
Rawlins would go 6.0 innings, giving up just two hits and no runs. Brian Finegan led the way for the Rainbows, going 2-for-5 with a double, one RBI and one run. Kevin Gilbride added a 2-for-4 day with two runs. Daniel Magana came off the bench to go 2-for-2.
The Rainbows got on the board first in the third inning as Gilbride reached on a bunt single before Finegan drove him in, putting UH up 1-0.
Hawai`i would add two more runs on an error, by Gilbride and Finegan, giving UH a 3-0 lead.
Centenary would get runners on in the seventh inning before Clary Carlsen would come in and get Jon Marshall to hit into a double play. The Gents would threaten again in the eighth with runners on second and third with no outs. But McDowell would come in and record three straight outs to retire the Gentlemen unscathed.
Centenary would finally get on the board in the ninth, scoring a run, with the bases still loaded. But the 'Bows would end the threat with a 6-3 putout, taking the game 3-1.
UH will now head down to Ruston, La., to face the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs for a three-game series starting Thursday.
