Hawaii Finishes 7th at WAC Championships

HOUSTON,Texas--The University of Hawaii men's golf team concluded its 2002-03 campaign in a tie for seventh place in the WAC Championships at the Houstonian Golf Club in Texas. The Warriors put up a three-day total of 891 (+27) and were unable to move up the standings after a final-round 300.

James Beston had an impressive display in his first WAC championship. The junior shot two-under (71-72-71=214) for the tournament to finish in a tie for fifth place in the individual standings. Senior Justin Kim, playing in his final event as a Warrior, rebounded from a nightmare second round to regain the form that put him in second place after the first day. Kim fired a final-round 73 to finish in a tie for 15th with a total of 221.

Fresno State maintained its second round lead and finished with a total of 862 (-2) to win the team title by three stokes over defending champion Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane, however, won individual bragging rights over the Bulldogs, with David Inglis defeating Nick Watney after a three-hole playoff. Inglis and Watney both shot eight-under-par (68-69-71=208) after 54 holes.
