Hawaii Finishes in 7th at Cougar Classic

PROVO, Utah — The University of Hawaii men’s golf squad carded a total of 896 (+32) to finish in a tie for seventh at the 2003 PING Cougar Classic at Riverside Country Club. The Warriors shot a final-round 300 on Saturday to move up three spots in the final standings.

James Beston fueled the Warriors climb from their 10th place standing through the first two rounds on Friday. The Australian native shot one-under-par during the day’s final round and finished in a tie for 12th place in the individual standings with a mark of 219 (72-76-71). Kellen-Floyd Asao was next in line for UH, finishing in a tie for 28th with a total of 223 (+7).

Colorado State tallied a total of 857 (-7) to edge BYU and Denver by one stroke for the team title. Colorado State's Martin Laird took home individual honors by shooting seven-under-par for the tournament (67-69-73=209).

Next up for the Warriors is the Western Athletic Conference Championships held at the Houstonian Golf Club in Texas on April 28-30.
