Boise, ID --The University of Hawai`i women’s tennis team advanced to the second round of the Western Athletic Conference Championship on Friday, April 25 with a 4-0 win over San Jose State University.
In doubles play, wins on the No. 2 and 3 courts gave Hawai`i a win going into singles matches. Lauren Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor defeated Whitney Vasu and Kathy Van, 8-2. Fitzgerald and Mainor are 15-7 on the season.
On the singles side, Hawai`i captured wins on the Nos. 3, 5, and 6 courts securing their victory and a spot in the second round. Senior Stacy Hakikawa beat out Whitney Vasu, 6-3, 7-5 on the No. 3 court. Renata Camargo also added another win to her record on the No. 5 court, handily winning against Elke Harms, 6-2, 6-1. Camargo holds the best record so far this season for a Rainbow Wahine at 12-2.
The Rainbow Wahine next face No. 1 seed Fresno State Monday afternoon.
