Tulsa Takes Slim Lead at WAC Championships

Day Two Results

KAPOLEI, Hawaii--Defending champion Tulsa took the lead during the second day of the Women's Golf WAC Championships at Kapolei Golf Course, but only by the slimmest of margins. The Golden Hurricane shot a second round total of 309 to take a one-stroke advantage over challengers Nevada and San Jose State.

The Golden Hurricane, Wolf Pack and Spartans entered today's action deadlocked and will go into tomorrow's final day action with little margin for error. Tulsa has a two-day total of 614 with Nevada and San Jose State tied for second at 615. Strong winds again proved a factor as the three teams failed to distance themselves from each other in the 15-30 mph tradewinds.

Boise State climbed into fourth place with a total of 638, followed by host Hawaii (641), UTEP (648) and SMU (660).

Tulsa junior Julie Tvede took over the individual lead by carding a two-over 74, giving her a total of 148. Tvede is three strokes ahead of teammate Suzie Fisher (78-73=151) and Nevada junior Alana Condon (76-75=151). Tara Chappell is the top golfer for the Rainbow Wahine and is in a tie for eighth place with a 155 total.

The 54-hole tournament concludes tomorrow with the first tee time pushed up to 9:15 a.m. HST.
